Why Filling the GAAP exists

The name is a play on GAAP, generally accepted accounting practice, and on the gap we kept seeing: between what small businesses and individuals are expected to comply with and the support they can actually afford. Most practices close that gap with more hours and bigger invoices. We close it with two things. Personal, professional service on a fixed fee, and software we build ourselves so that the parts of accounting that should be cheap or free actually are.

The practice started in audit and industry. Years of reviewing other people's financial statements teaches you that the numbers are only as good as the bookkeeping underneath, and that most problems come from things nobody explained to the business owner. Years as a financial manager teach the other half: what owners and directors actually need from their numbers to make decisions. Filling the GAAP brings those halves together.

How the practice works

We are fully remote, which keeps overheads low and lets us serve clients anywhere in South Africa and South Africans abroad. Every client has a named person who knows their file and answers their questions, and every engagement includes FTG Books as a client portal. We are available Monday to Friday, 08:00 to 18:00, and on WhatsApp for anything quick.

Designations held in the practice

• Professional Accountant (SA), a SAIPA designation. Qualified to compile financial statements and act as accounting officer.
• Professional Tax Practitioner (SA), registered with SARS as a tax practitioner. Qualified to prepare and submit returns and represent you in disputes.
• Independent Reviewer (SA), qualified to perform independent reviews of annual financial statements under the Companies Act.
